Monthly Workshops

Sugar and Spice

by Karen Crookes

Monthly on a Tuesday or Saturday 9.30am-1pm or 1.30pm-5pm
£30 per month.

I’ve designed this gorgeous quilt based on 16 x 12” blocks and uses a ‘quilt as you go’ method. The 12” blocks are all comprised of smaller blocks, together with embroidery and free machining. You will receive a block in advance of each month to allow you to choose and cut your fabrics. The pattern will also include the picture, either for you to embroider or free machine. However you can choose your own pictures if you wish, but there will be set sizes for these. During our monthly classes, we will cover the patchwork process and also have sessions focusing on free machining and embroidery. Once we have a few blocks completed, we will also spend a session on ‘quilt as you go’ to enable you to start putting your quilt together as you finish the blocks. You may well have homework each month so please make sure you can dedicate the time needed to complete your quilt.
Sessions run on a Tuesday morning or afternoon and a Saturday morning or afternoon every month.
Times for both days are 9.30am-1pm or 1.30pm-5pm. Cost is £30 per month paid in advance of the class each month. When signing up for this course, you are committing to attend for the full 12 months. Made up of 16 blocks, all of them based on circles and every block a different pattern and a different number of component parts. So each month we will concentrate on one block, starting with cutting out from our templates, understanding how to sew curves and adding on the background framing. There is likely to be homework for you to complete and obviously extra blocks if you want to make the full 16 blocks during the year. Permission has been given by Jen Kingwell to teach her design.
